A brokerage is a model where experienced estate agents run their own local businesses under
one shared brand and central support structure, rather than being employees of a high-street
chain. It’s the difference between a salaried branch manager and an independent professional
backed by a national network – your agent owns their patch, but you still get the systems,
marketing reach and oversight of an established company behind them.
Frequently asked questions
Using a self-employed estate agent
A Hortons Partner is a self-employed, experienced estate agent who runs their own business
within an exclusive local territory under the Hortons brand. They handle your sale personally
from valuation through to completion, and are backed by Hortons’ central marketing, technology
and compliance support.
● You deal with one experienced agent throughout, not a rotating branch team.
● Your agent genuinely knows your local market – it’s their own territory.
● They’re personally invested in getting you the best result, rather than hitting a corporate
target. In essence, they only get paid if they get you a result.
● More flexibility around viewings and communication, often including evenings and
weekends.
● You get the local expertise of an independent with the marketing reach and systems of a
national brand.
With a Hortons Partner, you work directly with one dedicated, experienced agent who focuses on one exclusive territory. They offer greater flexibility, including evenings and weekends, and as personally invested business owners, they are directly accountable for the service they provide. You also benefit from the same national brand presence and access to major property portals.
A traditional high-street agent typically involves dealing with several branch staff rather than one dedicated point of contact. Their local knowledge often covers a wider branch area, and availability is usually limited to standard branch opening hours. Accountability sits with salaried employees, while marketing reach generally comes through the agency brand and property portals.
If you value a personal, accountable relationship with an experienced agent who knows your
area and manages your sale end to end, while still wanting the reach of the major portals and a recognised brand, then yes – we think you’d love working with a Hortons Partner.
Yes. One of the biggest advantages of the Hortons model is continuity – the agent who values your home is the same person who markets it, conducts viewings, negotiates your offers and sees the sale through to completion.
Hortons
Hortons is an estate agency brokerage made up of experienced, self-employed estate agents –
our Partners – each running their own local territory under one trusted national brand.
Hortons was originally founded by Adam Horton in 2013, and began operating as a brokerage in
2016. We were the first self-employed estate agency brokerage of our kind in the country, and are recognised as one of the early pioneers of the model in the UK estate agency industry.
We’re no sale, no fee on commission – you only pay our selling fee if and when your home
successfully sells. The only upfront cost is a £50 AML/ID admin fee, which covers the identity
and anti-money-laundering checks every estate agent is legally required to carry out. There may
also be optional marketing package upgrades, which your local Partner will discuss with you
during the valuation process.
Our Partners set their own fees, so the cost varies from agent to agent and territory to territory.
The best way to get an accurate figure is a no-obligation quote from your local Partner.
Your local Hortons Partner. You can find the agent for your area on our Partners page and arrange a valuation directly with them.
Head to our Partners page and search by your area to find the agent covering your territory, along with their profile and contact details.
We operate across 40+ exclusive territories nationally, and we’re continually growing.
Yes – your home is marketed on the UK’s leading property portals to reach the widest possible
audience of buyers, alongside professional photography and your agent’s local network.
Typically your Partner handles the valuation, professional marketing, portal listings, accompanied viewings, offer negotiation and sales progression through to completion
Your Partner stays with you through the entire sales progression process — liaising with
solicitors, buyers and the wider chain to keep things moving and get you to completion as
smoothly as possible.
With Hortons you get a real, local, experienced agent who values your home in person and
handles your sale from start to finish – not a call centre or a list-it-yourself app. And with our no
sale, no fee model, you’re not paying upfront whether your home sells or not.
