To monitor our effects and make sure that we are continuously improving, we have set out four environmental sustainability targets to guide our efforts:
As part of the process to meet these targets, we plant a tree for every property that comes to market with us, whether that be for sale or let. That means every seller or landlord that lists a property with us gets their own tree which can be seen in the Hortons forest.
We have also committed to funding worldwide climate projects and planting more trees to off-set the carbon emitted by Hortons HQ. So far we have funded projects including solar power generation in India, preserving Amazonian rainforest in Brazil, producing renewable wind energy in Bulgaria and protecting lowland peat forests in Indonesia. The additional trees are planted on a monthly basis, with us planting around 250 trees per month across Madagascar, Mozambique and Kenya.
In total, we are offsetting enough carbon to cover one of the following every single month: 12 long haul flights, saving 48 sq metres of sea ice or travelling around 40,000 miles in a car.
As our team grows, so will our commitment to protecting the environment. We will strive to achieve our environmental sustainability targets to help prevent pollution, conserve resources, consume responsibly and reduce our carbon footprint.
“Our planet has grown ever more fragile, and we are starting to see the effects of global warming through extreme droughts, floods, wildfires and other natural disasters around the world. We do not only need to change for ourselves, but for our children, grandchildren, and future generations to come.”
