It is now more important than ever to consider the effects that our daily lives have on the environment. Although not as damaging as other industries, it is essential that as estate agents we do our bit to help combat the climate crisis.
There are several ways that we can reduce our carbon footprint and help protect the environment. Here are 4 examples:
- Opting for sustainable materials can help reduce the amount of waste we produce and decrease the demand for materials that are harmful to the environment. This includes sustainable furniture, decorations and marketing materials such as recycled paper. There are also multiple board agencies out there that offer recycled for sale/sold boards.
- Using digital tools rather than relying on paper can also help. For example, swapping out printed documents for online platforms to manage listings and communicate with clients will reduce waste, and ultimately reduce the carbon footprint of the business.
- Investing in renewable energy sources, such as solar panels or wind turbines, to power the office is another way to reduce energy emissions. It’s not as daunting as you might think, simply changing to a renewable energy supplier can help. Although they cannot always guarantee that 100% of the energy you receive is renewable, the supplier will invest a percentage of your energy bills into renewable energy sources to make up the difference.
- The final thing to mention is offsetting any carbon emissions. There are numerous businesses out there that will help do this by means such as funding worldwide green projects and planting trees. It is usually done on a monthly subscription basis, which means there is very little maintenance day-to-day. The company that we work with is Ecologi.
Once you have done all of the above, there are lots of other things that you can look into doing, including monitoring your waste and reducing consumption. But for now, tick the above boxes and we’ll all be taking a step in the right direction.
